A video of an Omani woman managing the traffic in a street in the capital Muscat during a power outage has gone viral on social media platforms.
Oman's capital Muscat was hit by a major power blackout on Monday, among other provinces in the nation, impacting energy, telecommunications and aviation sectors.
The woman got off her car and stood at an intersection organizing the traffic flow from one direction, and stopping the traffic from other directions as traffic lights were out of service.
The woman was praised by netizens for efforts.
Authorities have yet to provide a reason for the disruption, which the public service authority reported at 3:13 pm local time, saying the power grid would be restored within four hours.
The power was restored in affected areas by 6 pm.
The Public Services Regulatory Authority in Oman reported that parts of the main electricity network in the Sultanate of Oman are facing some interruptions, and that they are being dealt with by the Oman Electricity Transmission Company, with the aim of gradually restoring electricity.
Videos showed city streets in gridlock.
The authority added, in an official statement published on its Twitter account, that the governorates most affected are Muscat, parts of South Al Batinah, North and South Sharqiyah, and Al Dakhiliyah.
The Public Services Regulatory Authority of Oman also indicated that it will issue additional information on the subject as soon as it becomes available.
