A Brazilian fisherman was rescued after 11 days without food and water floating in a refrigerator in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
The man took shelter in it after his boat sank.
Romualdo Macedo Rodrigues set out on a fishing trip in his seven-metre wooden boat from the state of Amapá in northern Brazil in late July, planning to spend a few days in the sea, but destiny had a different plan.
The 44-year-old Romualdo, after a couple of days in the ocean, realised that his boat was damaged and that water was gathering in the lower deck.
He knew he would sink soon, according to the Daily Mail.
The story came to limelight after his return to Brazil from Suriname.
The fisherman climbed into a refrigerator on his boat, to escape from the sinking boat and spent 11 days without food, losing five kilogrammes of weight.
Romualdo, after being rescued, collapsed on the deck of a Surinamese fishing vessel from exhaustion.
According to the media, the Surinamese vessel picked him up some 450 kilometers (280 miles) away from where his boat sank.
He was dehydrated and suffered heat stroke.
He told the media that he suffered from extreme thirst during his terrifying experience and was hallucinating at times.
At one point he thought sharks would eat him.
When he reached the shore, he spent 16 days in prison in Suriname for lack of documents, and was then returned to Brazil by flight.
It is hard to believe how a freezer handled pounding seas amid the strong tides during the entire journey.
