This year has seen a series of setbacks for India’s Congress party. They are in the form of some high-profile resignations. Anand Sharma, Kapil Sibal and Hardik Patel are some of the top figures to have left the party. Even spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill has quit.

Now, in a big setback for the Congress, its veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has resigned from the party.

Azad has been upset since being left out in the cold over the Rajya Sabha membership after he retired as the Leader of Opposition in the Upper House.

Ghulam Nabi Azad in his resignation letter has pinned the blame on Rahul Gandhi for the destruction of the party and has alleged that proxies are being put up for the president's post.

Azad alleged that they were abused and humiliated at a specially summoned meeting of the extended Congress Working Committee meeting. The meet came after twenty-three leaders had a signed a letter seeking reforms in the party in 2020.

Recently, Azad quit as J&K campaign committee head after being named by the party.
