There was no earlier report of any malfunction with the aircraft, according to Indo-Asian News Service. Reports of aircraft making emergency landing in other airports after suffering technical snags are nothing new.

A few days ago, a flight that began in Canada was diverted to Jacksonville International Airport due to a “technical issue." Last year, a commercial passenger flight was diverted to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu after it encountered a technical glitch.

On June 19, a Delhi-bound plane had to change its route and make an emergency landing in Patna after one of the wings caught fire. As a precautionary measure, the captain shut down the affected engine and decided to return to Patna.

Recently, an A320neo plane owned by the Tata Group-helmed Air India had a nasty technical issue when one of its engines shut down barely half an hour after takeoff. It returned to Mumbai airport. The passengers were flown to Bengaluru later in another plane.

In a new development, a SpiceJet flight heading towards Dubai from Delhi had to make an emergency stopover in Karachi, Pakistan, on Tuesday . A senior official said there was an an indicator light malfunctioning that was responsible for the diversion.

The aircraft however made a smooth landing in Karachi and passengers safely disembarked. There was no earlier report of any malfunction with the aircraft, according to Indo-Asian News Service. Meanwhile, arrangements were being made for a replacement aircraft that would ferry the passengers to Dubai.
