VIDEO: Egyptian youth arrested for singing and dancing inside a mosque

The Egyptian security forces arrested a young man who appeared in a video clip of dancing inside a mosque to the music of a popular song. He was arrested within hours of the video shared on the Internet.

After the arrest of the young man, investigations revealed that he works in the profession of paints and ceramics, and resides in the city of Qalyub, in the Qalyubia governorate, according to local media.

The Egyptian Ministry of Awqaf has opened an extensive investigation into the incident of circulating a video clip of a young man dancing to folk songs inside a mosque, using the mosque's sound system, and issued a report on the incident.

Sheikh Sabri Yassin Dowidar, head of the Central Administration for Monitoring and Inspection Affairs at the Ministry of Awqaf, explained that the video of a young man trying to sing and perform hip-hop dance in a mosque was filmed while carrying out maintenance and restoration work inside this mosque.

He pointed out that this young man took advantage of his presence in the aforementioned mosque while carrying out the work of painting, and the video that was published on some social media sites.

The Public Prosecution will continue to investigate the youth for his reckless act.

In 2017, authorities shut down a nightclub in Tunisia after a DJ played a track featuring the Islamic call to prayer.

The nightclub, in the town of Nabeul, will “remain closed,” the town’s governor Mnaouar Ouertani said.

The track was played by Dax J who was appearing at the club as part of Orbit Festival.

A video of people dancing to the track was taken and shared widely online, which sparked outrage on social media.
