At least 120 people were injured when a gas cylinder explosion in a restaurant in Abu Dhabi on Monday afternoon.

The police confirmed that two people died in the explosion.

The authorities said, “64 people were injured with minor injuries, and 56 others sustained moderate injuries, and 2 people died.”

The authorities said that incident took place at Al Khalidiya area.

Preliminary investigation revealed that fire at restaurant was a result of a gas cylinder explosion.

The restaurant building was evacuated as a precaution, and the competent teams are still working on the site, stressing the importance and necessity of obtaining information from its official sources and not circulating media materials, taking into account the privacy and feelings of the injured and their families.

The authorities have evacuated 4 residential buildings for residents’ safety.

The police said the explosion affected some of their facades, and work is underway to provide temporary housing until the buildings are safe to reside again.

The Abu Dhabi Police and the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense confirmed that, according to the initial figures received from the site of the event in Al Khalidiya area in Abu Dhabi, 64 people were injured with minor injuries, 56 others sustained moderate injuries, and 2 people died.

The injured were transferred to the hospital to receive the necessary health care, with material damage to shops and facades of 6 buildings, and the specialized teams at the site are still completing their tasks.
