Arab countries have expressed willingness to mediate between Russia and Ukraine, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said during a press conference in Moscow on Monday.
Shoukry is part of an Arab League delegation visiting Moscow to discuss the situation in Ukraine.
The Arab League (AL) says the foreign ministers of Egypt, Algeria, Iraq, Jordan and Sudan met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Ahemd Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, also joined the meeting.
The AL says the ministers will then travel to Poland on Tuesday for talks with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
"The UAE is supporting efforts to reach a political solution to the crisis and is keen to promote regional and international security and stability, along with its efforts to fulfill the humanitarian needs of affected civilians in Ukraine."
Andriy Nebytov, the head of Kyiv’s regional police force, said the bodies were abandoned in the streets or given temporary burials. He cited police data indicating that 95% died from gunshot wounds.
President Zelensky said conditions in Mariupol, which has seen the worst fighting of the nearly eight-week long war, continued to worsen, though Reuters witnesses said a few dozen civilians managed to leave the city on Wednesday in a small bus convoy.
The conference is expected to strengthen the UAE’s global leadership position in climate action and sustainable development, in line with the vision and directives of its wise leadership.
