Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority has issued a statement regarding a rumour circulating in social media that the authority will install tolls gates in major roads.

Mohammed Al Zaabi, a senior official, said, “There is no truth to what is being circulated about the application of the tariff gates system on Sharjah roads.”

Al Zaabi made the statement during on-air interaction called “The Direct Line.”

The official said a gate might be installed in certain tourist areas to collect entry fees.

As of now the emirate has no plans to set up tolls gates for vehicles.

On Tuesday, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Salem Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), and in the presence of Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, issued Resolution No. (10) for 2022 regarding traffic tariffs in the Emirate of Sharjah. The resolution included a set of legal provisions that regulate traffic tariffs, controls, obligations, and schedules related to their fees and violations.
