Three gangsters put behind bars in theft case

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a gang of an Asian and two  Africans, one of whom is a fugitive, to three years in jail, and a joint fine of Dhs1,373,000, on charges of stealing the amount of the fine.

According to the case papers which took place in December 2021 in Baniyas Square, in Dubai, an Asian reported that he had been robbed of Dhs1,373,000 by an African gang.

The victim said a gang of Africans and Asians stole his money while he was on the public road, after assaulting him.

He added that the stolen money was in exchange for an electronics deal, which he agreed to buy from a merchant in an Asian country, and he was going to a person to hand the amount to another person outside the country, to send the electronics to his store in Dubai, but the Asians and the Africans stole the amount from him after assaulting him and one of his friends, who happened to be with him, then they fled the scene with a vehicle.

According to the statement of a policeman, an investigation team identified  the gang members, and the residence of one of them, the Asian who was arrested with Dhs25,000 in his possession.

On being questioned, he admitted his participation in the crime with other Africans, as his role was to lure victims to exchange the local currency for dollars, in return for 5% of the value of the money. The suspect guided the police to the location of the others in the Emirate of Sharjah, and one of them was arrested with Dhs95,000 and $800 dollars, which he admitted was the proceeds of the theft. He added that the other fugitives seized the rest of the amount.

Separately, the Dubai Criminal Court recently sentenced an Asian to two years in jail to be followed by deportation and fined him Dhs300 on charges of robbing a man by coercion after assaulting him with a knife in Al Riqqa area in Dubai.

The case dated back to May last year when the victim filed a complaint in which he stated he had been robbed by coercion and assaulted in Al Riqqa area.

The victim stated in the investigations that an Asian blocked his way near his residence, stabbed him in the lower abdomen and stole Dhs300 from his pocket after he refused to give him the money he had. The defendant fled away after threatening to kill the victim if he tried to resist or chase him.

A policeman stated in the investigations that the inferences gathered from the crime scene led to the arrest of the Asian with the blood-stained knife he used in the assault in his possession.

On interrogation, the defendant confessed to the charge levelled against him.
