The defendant performed a hip replacement surgery to the victim in a private hospital in Dubai.
The Judicial Authority of the Civil Court at Dubai Courts issued a ruling convicting the defendant in the case of the victim, Betty Rita Fernandez, 42.
The defendant was fined Dhs100,000 for the charge levelled against him and was obligated to pay Dhs200,000 in blood money to the legal heirs in compensation for the financial and psychological harms they had befallen them.
The case dated back to a complaint filed by the victim’s husband against the defendant who performed the surgery to his wife that culminated in her death on May 2019 as a result of a medical error. The defendant performed a hip replacement surgery to the victim in a private hospital in Dubai.
The Dubai Appellate Court commuted a life jail term issued by the Court of First Instance against an Arab manager with Western citizenship, to 15 years in jail and uphold his deportation after serving the jail term.
The UAE Attorney General, Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, said that the Public Prosecution had completed its investigations to identify the truth in the crime, which attracted public attention after a video of the offence was posted on social media sites.
The victim stated that he offered a dog he owned for sale on a social networking site, adding that a man contacted him and requested to inspect the dog before buying it and they both agreed to a place where they could meet.
