The Dubai Appellate Court commuted a ruling issued by the Court of First Instance sentencing 5 gangsters for one year in prison to 6 months against two of them.

The court acquitted a third of the charge of forgery, but convicted him of possession of items obtained from a crime.

The court also upheld the deportation of the three suspects after serving their sentence for their involvement with a fugitive in seizing a Range Rover worth Dhs685,000 which they rented for two days and forged its documents for transferring it to a GCC country.

The crime was discovered by a tracking device located inside the car and then the suspects were arrested.

Details of the case date back to January 2021, when an employee at a luxury vehicle rental office discovered that a 2020 Range Rover, rented by a GCC person for two days, at Dhs3,000, was not returned on the decided date.

According to the testimony of the employee he said he contacted their vehicle tracking company, and they reported that one of the tracking devices was removed from the vehicle and that the coordinates of the second tracking device indicated that it was in a neighbouring emirate.

The employee said he contacted the police that located the vehicle which was on a trailer on the way to its transfer.

The police swung into action and arrested the truck driver, who claimed a GCC person contacted him from outside the country for Dhs2,500 and sent him the coordinates of the vehicle and the place where he kept its keys and documents.

A policeman said in the interrogations that the fugitive convict rented the vehicle and left the country.

He then communicated with the rest of the convicts to forge its travel documents from the Roads and Transport Authority, in preparation for it to be shipped in his favour after removing the tracking device from inside.
