The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an African to 3 years in prison to be followed by deportation over robbing two Asians in complicity with two countrymen (fugitives) at knifepoint. The convicts reportedly stole Dhs10,000, a wallet, and a mobile phone from the victims with coercion.

The case dates back to last September, when an Asian filed a complaint with the police stating that he had been robbed at knifepoint while walking in street with another to their residence in Al Quoz Industrial Area in Dubai.

They were stopped by African persons who threatened them with a knife that was in his possession, the police was told.

The man explained that one of the perpetrators assaulted his colleague causing injuries in the finger and the back, and stole a phone and a wallet that contained Dhs10,000 and a bank card.

A police patrol moved to the scene, as the victims were transferred to hospital to receive medical treatment, while the cops continued the search and investigation to identify and then located the suspects.

A police patrol stopped a person matching the specifications provided by the victims. It was said he was in a state of confusion and had a mobile phone that was constantly ringing. A patrol member asked him to answer and open the speaker.

The caller was owner of the mobile phone who was saying, “This is my mobile phone and it was stolen from me.”

Accordingly, the suspect was arrested and driven to the police station, where the victims recognised him and confirmed he was one among those who had robbed them.

The suspect admitted that he connived with other compatriots to rob the two victims, who were walking on a street in the Al Quoz Industrial Area.

He added that his share was the phone that he stole from the victim in addition to an amount of money.
