At least 2 people died and 11 others sustained medium to critical injuries (all are Asians) in a collision between a bus and a vehicle in Rammah area on the Abu Dhabi road towards Al Ain.

The preliminary investigations showed that the cause of the accident was due to sudden swerving, preoccupying with other than the road, excessive speed and failing to leave sufficient safety distance between vehicles, Lt. Col. Saif Naif Al Ameri, Deputy Director of Traffic Department in Al Ain, said.

The police patrols, ambulance, field hospital and rescue patrols were dispatched to the location of the accident as soon as the Command and Control Centre of the Operations Department was alerted about it. The paramedics provided the injured with first aid on the spot before transferring them to Tawam Hospital and Shakhbout Medical City for further medical treatment.

Al Ameri urged drivers and road users to abide by the traffic law, warning of the danger of sudden swerving to avoid fatal accidents.

He further called on drivers to pay attention, focus and watch the road, use traffic lights when changing lanes, use mirrors to make sure there is space to move to the other lane, and stick to the lanes without changing them.
