The Dubai Court of Appeal ruled that the three-year sentence issued by the Court of First Instance against a gang of three Asians on charges of kidnapping a fellow man and robbing him by coercion be commuted to one year. The court, however, upheld the Dhs10,900 fine imposed on the defendants and their deportation after serving their sentence.

The case dated back to last June when an Asian filed a complaint in which he stated that he had been kidnapped from Al Nahda area and taken to Al Ruwayyah area and his mobile and golden necklace as well as a sum of money, cheques and documents had been stolen from him.

The victim stated in the investigations that he went to Al Mamzar area in Dubai at the request of his partner to settle some financial disputes over the profits of their company. He, however, was surprised by his partner and two others assaulting him and taking him in a vehicle to Al Ruwayyah area, where they stole his money, cheques and jewels that were in his possession.
