The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution has imposed the remand measure of detention upon a British suspect, pending investigations into the physical assault of an Irish woman, and threats to post her personal photographs on social media.

Regarding the details of the incident, the victim filed a complaint stating that she was beaten by the accused without reason, which caused her injuries in different parts of her body, in addition to threatening her if she reacted or complained, to publish her personal photographs on social media, due to previous disputes between them.

The Public Prosecution indicated that the medical report submitted by the victim showed bruises and swelling in some parts of her body. Upon arrest, the accused denied the charge levelled against him in contradiction with the statements and evidence contained in the complaint, and the statement of the security guard who was present at the scene of the incident.

An earlier report said the Dubai Criminal Court sentenced four people of different nationalities to one year in jail to be followed by deportation and fined them Dhs3,000 and 2,000 rupees.

The defendants kidnapped and assaulted an Asian for refusing to pay a debt of Dhs5,000 back to one of them. They also robbed the victim by coercion, photographed him nude and threatening to post his photos on Internet if he reported the incident to the police.

The case dated back to last September, when the victim reported to the police that he had been kidnapped, assaulted and robbed by coercion by four people. According to his testimony in the investigations, he borrowed Dhs5,000 from one of the defendants, who was his friend, but could not return the amount on time and consequently asked for more time to give the money back. On the day of the incident, the victim’s friend contacted him and agreed to meet in Al Karama in Dubai but the victim was surprised to find the defendant and three others forcing him to get into another car where they assaulted him.
