The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian to two years in jail for being convicted of stealing his ex-girlfriend’s phone, publishing photos of them together on her Facebook accounts, and sending her photos to her husband and brother via WhatsApp.

He will be deported after serving the jail term.

According to the case papers, in July 2021, a woman reported the police that her phone had been stolen and she had been blackmailed by a person she previously had a relationship with.

According to the woman’s testimony in investigations, a person attacked her while she was in Mirdif area and stole her phone.

She added he threatened her to divulge things related to honour if she did not agree to continue in their relationship.

The woman added that she had a friendship with that person, which developed into a love relationship, during which he promised her to marry but she was married to another person, so she asked him not to contact her again.

He threatened to publish her pictures with him and send them to her family and husband.

The woman’s husband testified that he received messages from his wife’s phone while she was with him and when he asked her about them she told him her phone was stolen and that someone threatened her, so he informed the police.

The police arrested the suspect who confessed to sending pictures and messages to the woman’s phone via her Facebook account and to the phones of a number of her family members via WhatsApp.
