Many cafes and outlets selling refreshment hot drinks, including fuel stations, raised the price of “Karak tea,” one of the most popular drinks in the UAE, by 50%, by half a dirham.

It now cost Dhs1.50 in a number of eateries, and the reason is “the high price of tea milk, and sugar,” according to workers in some cafeterias.

Others said even places that sell tea for Dhs2 have raised it to Dhs2.50, knowing that a cup of Karak tea reaches Dhs5, Dhs10 and even Dhs20 in high-end places and some hotels.

A number of fans of the popular drink believe that the increase is unjustified and large, albeit simple within the lowest price segment, and demanded an audit of cafeterias and beverage outlets that enjoy great popularity in the morning and throughout the day as they provide the quick drink and at simple cost.
