The Ajman Police arrested 45 beggars (28 men, 16 women and a child) of Arab and Asian nationalities, during the last week of January 2022.
The arrests were made as part of Ajman Police’s continuous efforts to eradicate menace of begging due to its negative effects on the society.
Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director of the Department of Criminal Investigations said the Ajman Police, while intensifying efforts to stop this phenomenon, arrested 45 beggars of different ages within a week while they were wandering in different areas of the Emirate of Ajman.
“The detained beggars used to claim poverty, urgent need for money and peddling, which causes disturbance and embarrassment to all members of society,” Nuaimi said.
Al Nuaimi called on the society members not to respond to the beggars or to express feelings of compassion and sympathy towards them.
He called on to immediately report any beggar who is spotted anywhere at number 067034310.
He also called on community members to contribute positively with the security bodies to curb the phenomenon by donating their alms money to charitable organisations and societies.
