The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced two GCC citizens to 6 months in jail on charges of assaulting and resisting a policeman by hitting his vehicle while attempting to escape from the scene of a complaint filed by the girlfriend of one of them.

The case dated back to December 2020 when a patrol headed to the scene of a complaint filed by a girl and her sister against the defendants in a Dubai Land area.

According to the policeman’s testimony, he met the complainant and her sister upon arrival to the scene of the complaint. On interrogation, the complainant stated that she met the first defendant via Snapchat and agreed with him that he brought a pickup to help her shift her luggage from Deira to Farjan. The defendant, however, brought his friend and they tried to take both sisters to a hotel but she filed a complaint.

The policeman added that while talking to the complainant, the two defendants came from inside the hotel and were requested to present their ID cards. The defendants went to their vehicle to bring their IDs but one of them tried to start the vehicle and ran away.

The policeman chased them and they could not carry on because there was a traffic jam.

When they tried to reverse, the defendants’ vehicle hit a patrol that was behind them and the policeman was injured as a result.

The defendants continued to flee away but were chased by the patrol and were arrested.

They were referred to the Public Prosecution.

Recently, the Dubai Appellate Court upheld the ruling of the Court of First Instance jailing an Arab employee for 10 years, to be followed by deportation after serving the jail term, on charges of luring a 50-year-old European woman into his apartment and assaulting her.

The details of the incident date back to August 2020, when the victim filed a report.

She testified that the suspect met her while she was in a hotel restaurant with her friend in Al Barsha area in Dubai.

She added that the convict claimed  to be a businessman and had a large apartment.

When they got inside, the suspect caught her with both hands and pushed her inside a room, locked the door, detained her, assaulted her and threatened to kill her if she resisted him.
