Indonesia's largest oil refinery Pertamina said on Saturday that a fire broke out in a fuel storage unit at the company's refinery complex in Cilacap, Central Java.

The authorities have begun "intense" efforts to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to other areas.

The company indicated that it would evacuate residents near the refinery to a safe place.

Pertamina said the fire started at one of the 228 gasoline tanks used to accommodate crude at 7:20 pm.

It said the cause of the fire is still not known.
There were no casualties reported.

The residents and workers were evacuated to a nearby village hall and a mosque.

Cilacap is one of six Pertamina refineries with a processing capacity of 270,000 barrels a day.
