The Abu Dhabi Police have affirmed that drivers can object to traffic fines within a month from the date an SMS to this effect has been received by the vehicle owner.

Brigadier Mohammed Al Humairi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate in the Central Operations Sector, explained that based on ministerial resolution no.178 for 2017 on traffic control rules and procedures, a vehicle owner is notified of the fines imposed on his vehicle, enabling him to check with the authorities concerned within a month from the date of the fine.

"Only during this period the vehicle owner can claim that he/she was wrongly fined or the violation was committed by another driver, unless the fine has been recorded in his presence," he said.

"In the event the driver does not show up during the specified period, the vehicle and its owner will be liable for the administrative penalties prescribed for traffic fines," he added,

"Failure to check with the authorities concerned and object to the fine proves it has been committed unless proven otherwise," he added.
