His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, mourned the demise of Dr. Ahmed Kazim, the first Emirati doctor in the country.

Sheikh Mohammed offered his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, asking Allah to have mercy upon him and grant him a place in heaven.

He tweeted: “Our condolences to the family of Dr. Ahmed Kazim, the first Emirati doctor in the country, who spent five decades of his life in serving people by treating them and curing their pains. He has all our praise and appreciation and may Allah have mercy upon him and grant him a place in heaven, Amen.”

Dr. Ahmed Kazim was born in 1922 and obtained a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from the Indian city of Bombay, as it was then known, in 1955, at 33 years of age. He then obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) from Edinburgh in 1959 and later FRCS from England in 1975.

On December 1, 2014, Sheikh Mohammed honoured 43 national figures by granting them the UAE Pioneers Award and having their names immortalised through government archives and an annual government book. Dr. Kazim was one of the honoured pioneers as the first Emirati doctor.

Dr. Kazim was always proud of being the first Emirati doctor and of being included in the list of honoured UAE pioneers. Over five decades, he spared no effort, devoted himself to his work and did his best for many Emirati doctors to excel in this important profession.

He shouldered a great responsibility for participating in shaping the future of the country and achieving the aspirations of the wise leadership by means of diligent and continuous work in various fields and keeping abreast of the finest skills and modern scientific experiments for the advancement and progress of his country.
