Man accused of attempted rape in India ordered to wash clothes of 2,000 women for 6 months

A man in India accused of attempted rape was ordered to wash and iron the clothes of 2,000 women in his village for six months as a condition of bail.
According to the court’s ruling, the accused Lalan Kumar, 20, will have to purchase the detergent and other items needed to run six months free laundry services to the women of Majhor in the Indian state of Bihar.
Santosh Kumar Singh, a policeman from Madhubani district in Bihar said that Kumar was arrested in April on charges of attempted rape.
Kumar washes clothes for a living.
The court also ruled that Kumar was also required to pay a bail bond.
A date is yet to be set for his trial.
A lawyer representing Kumar, said the accused agreed to "do community service related to his profession" to show his respect for the women in the village and elsewhere.
Nasima Khatoon, head of the village council in the area said that the women in the village are happy with the court's decision.
Villagers said the order has already had a positive impact by making crime against women a topic of discussion in their community.
