Surveillance cameras monitored the escape of two prisoners from a police station in the Thai city of Tamarind, using a paper clip to pick up the prison key and open its lock, liberating themselves in less than one minute, according to local media.
The incident, recorded by the cameras, took place at a police station in Chanthaburi district of Tamarind, in which one of the two suspects takes a piece of wire and a hidden paper clip, and uses it skillfully and quickly to pick up the key that locks the prison door.
It took the suspect less than a minute to successfully unlock the lock, after which he turned around to wake up his sleeping friend.
Then they slipped away and escaped from the prison.
The police said in a statement that the two fugitives had criminal histories in several areas, and were arrested after they were charged for stealing two motorcycles, a phone and a diamond bracelet.
The two accused were imprisoned after interrogation before they managed to escape.
The police succeeded in arresting one of the fugitives, but they have not yet been able to arrest the person who picked up the key.
"The escapees include Lebanese, Syrians and Palestinians, among other foreigners," a judicial told AFP. A security source confirmed the escape method, saying the prisoners were likely aided by someone on the outside.
It wasn't clear whether the escapade succeeded in winning back the heart of the young woman, also 18, who had broken up with him by phone. The man is being investigated for trespassing and unauthorised contact with prisoners.
A pair of prison guards were held hostage for at least nine hours by two dangerous inmates at a Swedish jail, demanding pizza as ransom. The guards were later released when the pizza was delivered, Stina Lills, a spokeswoman for the prison administration.
By early afternoon on Saturday, 15 had been recaptured, and another four had handed themselves back in, leaving 44 on the run. "A manhunt is...underway to arrest the remaining fugitive prisoners," police said in a statement.
It was the 14th drone attack on the Ukraine capital by Russia this month, the authorities said, noting an unprecedented number in a single month after Kyiv had been relatively spared at the start of the year.
