The Kuwaiti Ministry of Awqaf arrested the muezzin of a mosque in the Al-Rehab area for performing the call to prayer wearing shorts, and referred him to the public prosecution, according to local media reports.
A video clip recorded by a visitor to the Abdullah Bin Jaafar Mosque in the Al-Rehab area, caused a lot of controversy and was widely circulated on social media.
The video showed the muezzin performing the call to prayer wearing a white T-shirt and shorts.
The video offended social media users who saw it as an insult to the sanctity of prayers and the mosque.
The Ministry of Awqaf quickly announced that the muezzin had been suspended from work, and referred him to the public prosecution.
