Two people were killed after they had fallen in a deep pit, which they dug in an attempt to prospect for artifacts in a village belonging to Beni Suef Governorate, south of Cairo, Egypt.

The authorities explained that the Police Station of new Beni Suef city received a report that the body of a worker with separate abrasions was found dumped in the hole.

The criminal investigation teams concluded that the deceased with six others were digging and excavating antiquities in one of the houses owned by a driver.

After digging, the deceased and another descended into the pit, which led to their suffocation and they died on the spot.

The rest were able to take the bodies out from the hole, but bodies had abrasions during their attempts to take them out, the authorities added.

One of the deceased was taken by his brother to their house, while two of the accused took the body of the other and dumped it in the place where it was found, the authorities said.
