A 33-year-old Egyptian woman, Hiba, gave birth to quadruplet boys, weighing between 1.6kg and 2kg in Sharjah.

Hiba, a resident of Sharjah, was rushed into NMC Royal Hospital in Sharjah on July 6, for an emergency Caesarean as she was only in the 31st week of her pregnancy.

The boys were named Ahmed, Adam, Mohammed and Malik.

Nearly, 20 doctors and nurses from different sections were there to help with the delivery.

“A woman with quadruplet pregnancy in her 31st week has a very high risk,” said Professor Ahmed El Bohoty, a gynecologist and an In vitro fertilization (IVF) consultant.

Dr Bohoty said he supervised the delivery, which he wanted to delay to make sure about the mother and babies' safety.

The four boys have three older sisters, Habiba, 11, Farah, 6, and Rahma, 4 who were born in Egypt before the family came to the UAE.

The father, Omar, an Egyptian construction worker in Sharjah thanked the hospital and Professor El Bohoty for his great efforts.

The birth of quadruplets occurs just 1 in 700,000 pregnancies, with 25 per cent risk of spontaneous loss before birth, according to doctors and specialists.
