India extends suspension of international flights till Aug.31

The Indian aviation authorities have extended the suspension off all international flights to the country till Aug.31.

The aviation authorities in India said in a notice that all international flights to and from India would remain suspended till 2359 hours IST of August 31, 2021.

An airport official said that the ban would not apply to international cargo operations.

It also said that some flights would be allowed to operate after approval from the DGCA.

India, and other nations barred international flights with the emergence of coronavirus and the rise of Delta variant.

Air travel was barred to check the spread of virus in the country.

Domestic flight services resumed from May 25, 2020, but travellers have been urged to avoid unless there is an emergency.

The country reported 44,230 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, the highest in three weeks.

The alarming trend in the number of cases has forced some states to shut down due to fears of a new wave of infections.
