An elderly Indian man narrowly escaped death on Sunday after he got stuck under a slow moving train in Mumbai while trying to cross the railway tracks.
The driver applied the emergency brakes on time to save the life, according to Indian media.
The accident occurred, according to a statement of the Indian Railways, when the 70-year-old man tried to cross the railroad while the train was leaving Kalyan railway station in Mumbai.
The authority indicated that the old man, while crossing the tracks, fell and got stuck under the train, after it noticed a number of train workers raised the alarm.
The train drivers immediately applied the emergency brakes, and pulled the old man from under the train.
The authority warned people not to cross the railway tracks, stressing that this could be fatal.
The railways announced a cash reward for the train workers for their timely intervention to save the man's life.
The train drivers have been identified as loco pilot SK Pradhan and his assistant Ravi Shankar G. They applied the emergency brakes.
