Brig. Marwan Abdul Karim Julfar, deputy director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions (DPCI) in Dubai said the department set the first and second day of Eid Al Adha to visit inmates, from 8am to noon, during official working times. He added that the visits would be done through a remote visual communication service, in implementation of precautionary measures taken for protection against the new coronavirus.
Julfar pointed out that DPCI began putting into effect the virtual service since the start of the pandemic.
He added, “Dubai Police are keen that inmates would communicate with their families at different times and events, so we launched a remote communication service, as a humanitarian initiative aimed at enabling persistent communication between them, outside or inside the UAE. We are keen to provide full logistical support, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Artificial Intelligence.”
According to Julfar, the person who wants to visit an inmate has to present an electronic request through the Dubai Police app on smartphones. Then an SMS will be sent to him, attached with the link through which he will perform the visual call and its time, on the Dubai Police Command website.”
The Dubai Police have revealed that tailgating and overspeeding were the main causes behind the accidents reported during Eid Al Adha holidays.
