India reports 32,906 new coronavirus cases, death toll rises by 2,020

India reported on Tuesday 32,906 new COVID-19 cases, which is the lowest in the past 118 days and 2,020 new deaths in the last 24 hours, data from the health ministry showed.

The South Asian nation's total infections now stand at 30.91 million, while the death toll reached 410,784.

The active cases have now come down below 500,000.

According to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Tuesday it is the 35th consecutive day when India reported less than 100,000 new coronavirus cases.

The active cases have now come down below 500,000. The country has 4,32,778 active cases presently and has witnessed a total of 410,784 deaths so far.

A total of 49,007 people were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total discharge to 30,063,720 till date, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The Ministry said that a total of 381,467,646 people have been vaccinated so far in the country, including 4,065,862 who were administered vaccines in the last 24 hours.


India has been the world's worst-hit country since April 2 by new daily cases.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 434,058,138 samples have been tested up to July 11 for COVID-19. Of these 1,740,325 samples were tested on Sunday.

On July 6, India recorded 553 deaths — lowest since April 6. This was after May 23 when India saw record fatalities with 4,454 deaths in 24 hours at the peak of the second wave. The first death in the country due to the pandemic was reported in March 2020.
