Marriage isn’t something you get, it’s something you do. Whether you choose to take the plunge or not, is like pressing a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ button in a contest: it all depends on how good or bad things are.

Loneliness is not a good thing, particularly in old age. This is something the grandchildren of a 70-year-old Pakistani professor, who goes by one name Gulzar, realised after his wife passed away in Islamabad. They saw that he was trying hard to come to terms with the death of his wife. But they found that what was more agonising was his solitude which was getting more and more painful by the day. The grandchildren saw that there was just one solution: the escape hatch to happiness lay in their ‘Dada Jan,’ as they fondly called him, tying the knot again.

So they put their matchmaking skills to good use. Soon a lady called Nazhat Yasmeen heaved into sight of Gulzar, and he was smitten. Cupid had worked his magic, and it was not long before the two consented to marry at a meeting, which was organised by the grandchildren.

Professor Gulzar’s wedding was attended by a large number of people including his children, relatives, family friends, and of course his enterprising grandchildren.

The beauty of marriage is that it develops love, care and understanding between the husband and wife over time. We hope Professor Gulzar remains happy with his soulmate — always.
