A 63-year-old European visitor is facing trial on assault charges, after resisting arrest and verbally assaulting a police officer in Dubai.

The incident occurred last May, when police’s operations room received a call about a quarrel at a hotel that involved the defendant. A police patrol was immediately dispatched to the scene to handle the situation.

The police officers spoke to one of the hotel staff who alerted them to the defendant’s frequent visits to the hotel which disturbed employees and guests.

The employee elaborated that the defendant was now sleeping on one of the couches at the reception and refused to leave.

The victim officer headed towards the defendant and woke him up. When he was asked why he was randomly sleeping on the couch, the defendant claimed to be tired and in need of some rest.

The officer told him to immediately leave the place or else he would be arrested.

This is when the defendant decided to take off his clothes and stay in his underpants. He furiously began to scream at the officers.

When the defendant insisted on staying with virtually no clothes on, the officers had to handcuff him and take him to the police station. "The accused resisted the arrest and kept on pushing his body so hard that we both fell to the floor,” the officer said. After a long struggle, the defendant was finally cuffed. He started to verbally abuse the arresting officer.

When placed inside the police patrol car, the defendant deliberately threw himself against the front of the vehicle where he sustained a head injury. An ambulance was promptly called for to provide medical help for the defendant, but he strongly refused to be treated.

While still fighting back and resisting arrest, the defendant managed to escape from the clutches of the police officers and ran towards the hotel until he was caught again. A back-up was requested by the officers in order to end the struggle, but however, the defendant kicked the patrol vehicle's back door, causing it to break.

He was finally arrested and taken to the police station to be charged and prosecuted for his crime.
