10-year-old girl protects younger brother from bullets with her body during an attack in New York

Two children miraculously escaped death after they were trapped during a shooting as an armed man tried to kill a man in the Bronx neighbourhood of New York.

The shocking video shows a five-year-old boy and a ten-year-old girl exposed to crossfire in a Bronx street after a gunman shot a man several times at the close range, according to the American media. 

The victim attempted to use the two children as a shield against the pouring bullets.

During the chase, the victim collided with the two children and fell to the ground.

Footage shows the girl dragging her young brother, covering him as bullets reverberated around them, and the man targeted for murder.

The police said that the incident occurred Thursday, on Sheridan Street in the slum, where the unknown shooter appeared and opened fire on the 24-year-old victim, hitting him in the back and legs.

“The two children did not know the victim and are safe," he added.

Police said the suspect then jumped on a motorbike operated by another person, and both fled the scene.
