Ajman Police raid shops, seize counterfeit goods worth Dhs30m

The Ajman Police seized nearly 120,000 counterfeit items bearing logos and emblems of global brands valued at Dhs30 million from a number of shops.
Brigadier Khaled Mohammad Al Nuaimi, Deputy Director General of Police Operations, said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) received reports from a number of overseas companies about a group of shops operating in the Emirate of Ajman that store and sell counterfeit goods bearing the trademark of their products.
The CID accordingly assigned a competent team to investigate the reports, which were verified through the search and investigation.
The shops that were found involved in such activities had been raided and searched leading to the seizure of a large amounts of duplicated goods bearing global brand logos worth in total Dhs30 million.
All such goods were confiscated, while deterrent legal measures were taken against owners of those shops, Brigadier Khaled Mohammad Al Nuaimi added.
The police seized fake products of luxury brands that included Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Boss, Hermes, Chanel, Dior, Cartier, Prada, Fendi, YSL, Coach, Adidas, Rolex - Van Cleef and Versace.
He emphasised that Ajman Police are committed to protecting intellectual property rights and combating everything that would harm the interest of the country’s economy.
The authorities take all necessary measures to confront the promoters of counterfeit goods, Brig. Al Nuaimi added.
In March, the Ajman Department of Economic Development (Ajman DED) and the Municipality and Planning Division in Ajman (MPDA) closed an illegal warehouse in the Second Industrial Area of Al Jarf, for manufacturing and packaging tobacco and Mu’assel (flavored shisha tobacco) products.
The fake goods were confiscated, which amounted to nearly 16 thousand products, varying between Mu’assel, raw Mu’assel, electronic shisha (hookah), and flavored oils for electronic shisha and tobacco.
The market value of such products was estimated at about Dhs1.5 million. In 2020, two factories in Ajman were closed by DED after 40,000 fake hand sanitisers worth Dhs500,000 were seized. After the removal of the label, it was found that the original product is body spray and not a sanitizer, as promoted. DED has withdrawn the product from outlets and ensured the market is free from such fake stuff, in order to safeguard the health of the community.
Ahmed Khair Al Blooshi, Director of Control & Consumer Protection Department said, “A competent team of inspectors was able to reach the main supplier after tracking supply chain and to eradicate this fraud at its very core.” “We underline that we will not put up with whomever arrogates himself to cause harm to the safety and health of community or use the increasing demand for a number of products for illicit gain. We will deter this category and stop offenders by imposing immense fines and legal sanctions,” he added.
