According to data released by the NCOC on Sunday, Pakistan conducted 55,965 tests on May 29, detecting 2,697 new coronavirus infections with a positivity rate of 4.82 per cent, reports Xinhua news agency.
Earlier in March and April, Pakistan saw a positivity ratio of over 11 per cent several times, leading to the government to impose strict measures, including the closure of educational institutions, markets, public parks, wedding halls, restaurants, public transport and all other venues of mass gatherings, especially during the Eid al-Fitr festival.
In May, the positivity rate dropped to over 9 per cent and went down further to below 5 per cent, the official data showed.
According to the NCOC, the total number of confirmed cases of COVID in Pakistan has risen to 918,936, with 839,322 recoveries, 58,878 active cases and 20,736 deaths.
Pakistan has so far administered 7,093,803 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

A record surge of 55,079 new cases in the past 24 hours took India’s coronavirus caseload past 1.6 million, as the government decided to lift a nighttime curfew that has been in force since late March.
Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
The latest health ministry data reports 314,835 new cases of the novel coronavirus over the previous 24 hours, the world's largest one-day rise in case numbers, a grim reminder of the threat still posed by the virus. Deaths rose by a record 2,104.

A woman filed a lawsuit against a women’s salon in which she requested the court to obligate the salon to pay her Dhs100,000 in compensation for the burns she sustained by mistake when her nails were trimmed and decorated with acrylic. She said this substance was left on her fingers for a long period and consequently caused finger burns of second and third degrees.
The Water Department of the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority completed the installation of a strategic water line extending for 56km from Hamda area to Al Badea area with a diameter of 800mm at a total cost of Dhs96 million, excluding the value of materials. The project aims at enhancing the diversity of water sources in the city of Sharjah and guaranteeing the continuity of service.
