The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) has announced it has changed into Al Etihad (Union) Electricity and Water Company as part of a forward-looking project aimed at improving efficiency.

Fewa clarified on its website that changing the authority into a company is a step aimed at raising its efficiency and upgrading its services, noting that the company would continue to keep pace with the increasing demand with a view to providing the best services to customers.

Earlier, Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, confirmed that converting Fewa into a private company is a forward-looking outlook in the UAE aimed at raising efficiency.

He pointed out that the federal authority was able over the previous years to achieve financial sustainability that would enable it to have a commercial future aimed not at making profits but at benefiting citizens and enhancing the efficiency of services, not profit.

Last year, Fewa won three awards in the international business awards “THE STEVIES” in its 17th edition 2020, as it was announced on the award’s official website. High-achieving organisations and executives around the world have been recognised as Gold, Silver, and Bronze Stevie Award winners in the 17th Annual International Business Awards.

The awards won by Fewa included the Gold Stevie Award for “Best Technical Support Solution – Computer Technologies” in the “IT Category” for its project of Advance Meter Infrastructure, AMI, and the Silver Stevie Award for “Corporate Social Responsibility Programme of the Year in the Middle East and Africa” in the “Company/ Organisation Categories” for its initiative “Lill Khair Nurashed”, in addition to the Bronze Stevie Award for the “Human Resources Department of the Year”.

Mohammed Mohammed Saleh, Director-General of Fewa, pointed out that these awards confirm the Fujairah body’s constant endeavour to adopt the latest technologies and international best practices, whether at the level of its main field of work or the levels of supporting management, and its contribution to the government’s efforts in the areas of innovation, sustainability, management governance, community happiness and others.
