Owners of Cannoli by Cafe Soul in Pakistan’s federal capital are facing a backlash on social media after a video of them mocking their manger for his weak English has gone viral.

In the video, now making rounds on the social media, the women introduce themselves as Uzma and Dia and ask their manager to introduce himself in English and then make fun of him as he faces difficulty in speaking in a language he is clearly not comfortable with.

"Could you please speak to everyone in English?" Uzma requests. The video shows the two women make fun of manger Awais as he speaks in English at the owners’ request.

"This is the beautiful English he speaks," said one of them while mocking him, while the other added, "This is what we paid for."

After facing criticism on social media, the women said in a statement on Instagram: "We are saddened and appalled by the reaction of the people, how they have misconstrued our banter with a team member."

"If anyone was hurt or offended we apologise, however that was never our intention," they said.

Meanwhile, Shaniera Akram, wife of former cricket star Wasim Akram, lambasted the owners of the Islamabad café for their act and challenged them for a competition.

“I’m bored too so I challenge you ladies to an English competition,” Shaneira wrote on Instagram.

#BoycottCannoli became one of the top trends in Pakistan.
