Two Kashmiri women, Sameera Fazili and Aisha Shah, have been named in the team of US President-elect Joe Biden so far.

The Biden-Harris Transition named Sameera Fazili as the deputy director of the National Economic Council at the White House.

The council coordinates the economic policy-making process and provides advice to the US president. "We are very proud. Everybody in Kashmir should be proud as it is a proud moment for the whole of Kashmir," her uncle, Rouf Fazili, told  a government news agency.

"She was not born here and her parents left the Valley in 1970-71, but she has a strong affinity with Kashmir," Rouf Fazili said. "The last time she visited the Valley was in 2007."

Meanwhile, earlier in December,  Kashmir-born Aisha Shah bagged a senior position in the White House Office of Digital Strategy.

According to the announcement by the Biden transition team, Aisha Shah has been named Partnerships Manager at the White House Office of Digital Strategy, which would be headed by Rob Flaherty, Director of Digital Strategy.

Raised in Louisiana, Shah previously served as digital partnerships manager in the Biden-Harris Campaign. She currently serves as an advancement specialist for the Smithsonian Institution, a Delhi-based news organisation, The Indian Express reported.
