New Zealand’s central bank on Sunday reported a violation of a data system meant for “sensitive information.”

Reserve Bank of New Zealand governor Adrian Orr said the breach has been taken care of but the system is currently offline while an investigation is being carried out.

"We are working closely with domestic and international cybersecurity experts and other relevant authorities as part of our investigation and response to this malicious attack," Orr said.

According to the Computer Emergency Response Team most recent report, cyber attacks in New Zealand increased by 33 per cent year-on-year.

Last year, New Zealand’s stock exchange was targeted leading to a cease in trading for four days.
