Sheikh Sultan opens the mosque in Khorfakkan on Sunday.

His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated opened the Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Mosque in Khorfakkan on Sunday.

The mosque has a capacity of 1,250 worshippers, including an all women section that can accommodate 250 worshippers.  

The mosque has a housing for the imam, a library for reading. It has areas for ablution and toilets.

The mosque was built at the expense of Sheikha Sheikha Bint Muhammad Al Qasimi.

It covers an area of 1860 square metres. The mosque was built to with modern architectural style but has a heritage character.

The mosque consists of a ground floor in addition to the mezzanine of the women's prayer hall, and it contains six entrances, including 3 main entrances, two side entrances, and a private entrance for the imam, as well as two minarets with a height of 38 meters and a large dome.

Apart from opening the mosque, Sheikh Sultan visited a number of vital, academic and service projects in the city of Khorfakkan.

The Ruler of Sharjah listened to an explanation from Ali Bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, Chairman of Sharjah Directorate of Public Works (SDPW), about the established projects and their workflow, as well as the completion status of the most prominent projects.

Sharjah Ruler began his visit by inspecting the academic projects and the new expansion of the University of Sharjah, Khorfakkan Branch, and examining the progress of work in the buildings, classes and various facilities. He directed to provide the optimal academic educational environment for students, in line with the development of the level the university has reached.
