PR officer arrested for embezzling around Dhs44,600 from institution in Dubai

The Public Funds Prosecution in Dubai referred a public relation (PR) officer to Criminal Court on embezzlement charges, after he misappropriated funds of around Dhs44,600 from a public institution where he was working.

Counselor Salem Ahmed Bin Khadem, Senior Chief Prosecutor at Public Funds Prosecution, who initiated the investigation into the case, said that as per the prosecution investigation, it revealed that the accused was working as PR officer in a company belonging to a public institution in Dubai.

His nature of work as a PRO was to carry out the company transactions with various government departments, receive money from the company to complete those transactions and submit transaction receipts to the accounts department.

The accused was working in the company for about eight months before the case was discovered.

Accordingly, the company filed a case against the accused, after he was given an amount of Dhs44,671 in installments by the company’s finance department, and had embezzled the mentioned amount.

Upon conducting internal auditing by the company’s competent department, the accused did not present any transaction receipts, and admitted to have used the money for his own interest, claiming he would pay it back to the company within one week.

Investigations concluded that due to not clearing the transactions and paying labour fees and staff visa applications, the accused had caused other financial damages to the company.
