The National Human Rights Committee has launched the first stage of its consultative process to prepare the National Human Rights Action Plan in the UAE during a meeting held by the committee.

The meeting was headed by Dr Anwar Bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, and included members of the committee, and Dr Omar Abdul Rahman Al-Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Federal National Council, several civil society institutions, and other relevant bodies.

During his remarks, Gargash indicated that despite the unprecedented circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the UAE has continued to advance in preserving national progress and furthering the efforts of the UAE Government and leadership to uphold the community’s health and safety.

Gargash also affirmed that the UAE has exerted significant effort to strengthen and develop institutional human rights frameworks. As such, the process of preparing the national plan reflects the UAE’s commitment to promoting human rights in the UAE in line with national policies, plans, and strategies as part of UAE Vision 2021.

Anwar Gargash said on Twitter, “Today we launched the consultative process for preparing the National Human Rights Plan. A step forward in achieving the goals of Vision 2021, enhancing community awareness in order to protect the principles of human rights, and practically consolidating the values of tolerance and coexistence.

“The forthcoming plan will enhance the UAE’s record by setting leading standards for human rights.”

Furthermore, Gargash noted that launching the consultative process comes in coordination with the Federal National Council, various civil society institutions, and other relevant bodies.

The National Human Rights Committee is keen to address different perspectives with various social components when deciding upon the final national plan to accurately reflect the country’s vision.

In conclusion, Gargash added that in the coming days, the National Committee would hold a series of consultative meetings with other authorities to prepare the National Human Rights Plan.
