A scary video posted on social media showed the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge heaving heavily and making a sound like a loud groan as wild winds blasted New York City.

A video also showed the bridge was completely empty.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said, “The upper level of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge is closed to all traffic in both directions because of high wind conditions.

“Traffic is being diverted to the lower level at this time.”

The transport officials said that the bridge opened later to the public.

The weather body said the New York region saw wind speeds up to 96 km per hour.

On the other hand, the northeastern US braced on Saturday for a powerful, windy storm that forecasters say could bring 18 inches or more of heavy, wet snow to parts of the region.

The heavy, blowing snow expected in the afternoon in New England may result in near-blizzard conditions that make travel difficult.

The nor'easter could dump as much as a foot of snow on suburban Boston.

"The chief hazards with the current forecast include hazardous driving conditions in the early hours, the volume of wet snow forecasted to fall and possible gusty winds in coastal areas,” said Alec O’Meara, the spokesman for Unitil Corp., an electric and gas utility in New England.

Crews are on standby in case of power outages, O'Meara said.
