UAE strongly condemns terrorist attack in Vienna

At least five people were killed and several others injured in the Austrian capital of Vienna when gunmen opened fire in six different locations.

The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that took place in the Austrian capital which claimed the lives of a number of people and wounded others.

Austrian authorities said on Tuesday that the shootings took place at about 8pm on Monday near the Seitenstettengasse synagogue at a city centre area.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation affirmed that the UAE expresses its strong condemnation of these criminal acts and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at destabilising security and stability in contravention of religious and humanitarian values and principles.

The UAE Ministry extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of this heinous crime, wishing a quick recovery to those injured.

Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer described in a press briefing early on Tuesday morning, that the heavily armed attacker, who was shot dead by the police, as a Daesh sympathiser.
