India's total coronavirus cases rose by 55,342 in the last 24 hours to 7.18 million on Tuesday morning, the lowest daily rise since mid-August, data from the health ministry showed.
Deaths from COVID-19 infections rose by 706 to 109,856, the ministry said.

India has registered 55,342 new coronavirus cases, its lowest single-day tally since mid-August.
The Health Ministry raised India’s confirmed total to more than 7.17 million cases on Tuesday but said the country was showing a trend of declining daily cases over the last five weeks.
The ministry also reported 706 deaths in the past 24 hours, raising the toll to 109,856.
According to data shared by the Health Ministry, the average number of daily cases from Sept. 9-15 was 92,830. The average has steadily declined since then, falling to under 73,000 per day over the last week.

Thursday is the 30th consecutive day when India reported less than 100,000 new coronavirus cases. The active cases have now come down below 500,000.
The Health Ministry data showed that the country's tally of infections now stands at 31.26 million, with the death toll at 418,987.
A total of 38,660 people were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total discharge to 30,308,456 till date from hospitals and health centres as the virus infected less than 100,000 people in the last 41 days, according to the Union Health Ministry.
On June 30, India recorded 817 fatalities due to the coronavirus, lowest since April 10, according to data released by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Thursday. The death figures have crossed 1,000 mark once again after three days.
The ministry stressed in a statement that its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate the early detection of coronavirus cases and carry out the necessary treatment.

The House members, largely left-leaning Democrats and led by Representative Andre Carson, noted that Shireen Abu Akleh held US citizenship and pointed to divergent accounts on how she died on May 11.
