The Dubai Public Prosecution referred a 29 year-old Asian farmer to criminal court, for stealing gold worth Dhs25,000 from his employer, and attempting to sell it to a jewellery shop with the help of another accomplice.

Official records indicate the owner of the jewellery shop had filed a report against the defendant and his accomplice after noticing their suspicious behaviour.

The owner revealed that he was approached by one of defendants to sell some gold pieces, while the one waited outside the shop.

He stated that they acted suspicious and were in a hurry to sell the gold.

The shop owner offered Dhs3,500 for the gold and the defendant did not hesitate to agree about the price, knowing that the gold is worth from Dhs4,500 to Dhs5000.

When asked about the source of the gold, the defendant claimed that his employer had given the gold to him in replacement for his monthly salary, and had no documents to prove his claim.

The shop owner immediately called police and was asked to detain the two defendants until police arrive, but they were afraid and fled the jewellery shop.

Police alerted the employer who was outside the Emirate at the time of the incident.

Investigations revealed that defendant is working at the employer’s farm and has full access to the house keys, which he used to steal the gold from the bedroom.
