Sharjah Civil Defence douses fire at a highrise in Al Taawun

A massive fire broke in Al Taawun Area on Thursday afternoon.

Residence of the area alerted police around 5:00pm that a fire broke out in a residential building, and police patrols, ambulances as well as civil teams were immediately dispatched to the site.

The Sharjah Civil Defence put out in record time. The police evacuated the building. Forensic team were at the site to determine the cause of the blaze.

A number of fire engines and ambulances arrived at the scene. 

However, there were no loss of life.

On Mat 5, a massive fire broke out at a residential apartment in Al Nahda, Sharjah.

The Sharjah Civil Defence teams controlled the Abcco Tower fire.

The building was evacuated.

Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police said that direct source of the fire at the Al Nahda tower may have been a cigarette or burning Shisha coal.

Al-Shamsi said, “The burning cigarette body that caused the fire of Al-Nahda Tower fell in the outer corridor of the tower and caused damaged to 100 apartments, 26 of which were completely burned, 34 were exposed to fumes and water, and 40 apartments had simple damages out of a total of 333 apartments in the tower.”

Last week, the Sharjah Civil Defence teams controlled a fire that erupted in a small vehicle, in Al-Taawun area of Sharjah.

The fire caused no injuries, while the vehicle was gutted and it was removed from the scene, the civil defence confirmed.
