Windy conditions prevail in UAE, fog likely

Various areas in the country on Tuesday witnessed active, northeasterly winds with a velocity of 42 km / h from nearly 11am until 3pm, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

The country also monitored the lowest temperature of 5.1 ºC in Jebel Jais at 2.30 am on Tuesday, the NCM added.

It has also indicated that fog could form on Wednesday, with a slight increase in temperatures that could range  between 1-2 ºC until Friday to reach 35ºC.

The NCM also said, “The weather on Wednesday is expected to be fair to partly cloudy. Humid by night and Thursday morning over some coastal and internal areas with a chance of fog and mist formation. Light to moderate northeasterly to southeasterly winds, with a speed of 16–26, reaching 36km/hr. The waves will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.”

Meanwhile, on Thursday the weather is expected to be fair to partly cloudy, the NCM said, noting that temperatures will tend to increase gradually. It will be also humid by night and Friday morning over some northern coastal areas.

The winds are also expected to be light to moderate northeasterly to southeasterly, with a speed of 15–25, reaching 35km/hr. The waves will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman, the NCM added.

The weather conditions were expected to be the same on Friday.

Earlier, dense fog covered various parts of the country in the early hours of Monday. The fog, which lasted for 11 hours, led horizontal visibility to decline to the lowest levels and sometimes zero.

Fog began to form at 12 am on Monday, and gradually cleared up after 9:30 in the morning, on some external areas in Abu Dhabi, Jebel Ali in Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Al Dhafra area, and Tarif– Liwa Road.
