An Arab man, 31-years-old, was jailed for impersonating a police officer, kidnapping and robbing an Asian man with the help of other runaway accomplices.

The suspect stole the victim’s wallet, which had Dhs5,300, and his phone, worth Dhs1,800.

Details of the incident date back to November, 2018, when the victim was waiting in line to withdraw cash from his bank account, and was surprised by the suspect approaching him and claiming he was an undercover officer.

The suspect, along with his accomplices, asked the victim to accompany them to the police station as he was wanted by police for his criminal record.

The victim immediately stated that he had no criminal record, and asked to see the suspect’s identification card.

The suspect furiously refused to show it, and suddenly slapped the victim and forced him into his vehicle. One of the runaway accomplices was waiting in another vehicle, and began to follow the suspect’s vehicle to a deserted area.

Afterwards, the suspects asked the victim to pay Dhs5,000 for his freedom, but the victim refused and said he would only pay the amount at the police station itself.

Suddenly, they stopped the vehicle and pushed him out of the car after robbing him.

The detained suspect was charged with robbery, kidnapping, and impersonating a police officer.
